Accessibility Statement

I believe everyone deserves to communicate with confidence. How Does This Sound is designed with accessibility as a core principle, with special attention to serving neurodivergent users.

My Commitment

This tool was built to be accessible to people with disabilities, including those with:

  • ADHD - Quick feedback, minimal overwhelm, clear visual hierarchy
  • Autism - Structured output, explicit tone guidance, reduced ambiguity
  • Dyslexia - Clarity-focused analysis, adjustable text size, high contrast options
  • Visual impairments - Screen reader compatibility, keyboard navigation
  • Vestibular disorders - Reduced motion support, no auto-playing animations

Accessibility Features

Visual Preferences

  • Dark mode - Reduces eye strain and works with system preferences
  • Reduced motion - Respects your system's "reduce motion" setting, or can be toggled manually
  • Adjustable text size - Choose from Default (16px), Large (18px), or Larger (20px)
  • High contrast mode - Increases text and border contrast for better readability

Access these settings by clicking the accessibility icon in the header (desktop) or from the mobile menu.

Keyboard Navigation

  • Keyboard access - Interactive elements can be reached and activated with keyboard
  • Focus indicators - Visible focus outlines (cyan in light mode, brighter in dark mode) show your current position
  • Focus trapping - Modal dialogs trap focus to prevent accidental navigation outside
  • Keyboard shortcuts - Use Ctrl/Cmd + Enter to quickly submit analysis

Screen Reader Support

  • Semantic HTML - Proper heading structure (h1 → h2 → h3), landmarks (<main>, <nav>, <header>, <footer>), and labels
  • ARIA attributes - Interactive elements use appropriate roles and states
  • Live regions - Analysis results and status updates are announced via aria-live regions

Cognitive Accessibility

  • Clear language - Plain English explanations, no jargon
  • Consistent layout - Predictable navigation and structure
  • Immediate feedback - Results appear quickly without complex multi-step processes
  • No time limits - Take as long as you need to review results

WCAG Conformance

I aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, though full conformance has not been independently audited. The four principles:

  • Perceivable - Content can be perceived through sight, sound, or touch
  • Operable - Interface can be operated by keyboard and other input methods
  • Understandable - Content and operation are understandable
  • Robust - Content works with current and future assistive technologies

Known Limitations

I'm continuously improving. Current known issues:

  • Skip to content - Not yet implemented
  • Touch targets - Some buttons may be smaller than the recommended 44x44px minimum on mobile
  • Color contrast - Some muted text (gray-400/500) may not meet WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1)
  • Streaming content - Real-time typing effects during analysis may not be fully announced to screen readers
  • Intensity slider - Custom range input may have inconsistent screen reader support across browsers
  • Form errors - Error messages may not be programmatically associated with their inputs

I'm actively working to address these limitations.

Testing

This site has been manually tested with:

  • Keyboard-only navigation - Verified
  • Browser zoom - Up to 200% magnification verified
  • Screen readers - Limited testing with VoiceOver (macOS)

More comprehensive assistive technology testing is planned.

Feedback

I welcome your feedback on accessibility. If you encounter barriers or have suggestions, please reach out via the contact form or social links in the footer.

Continuous Improvement

I built this tool because I needed it. As a developer with dyslexia, I use AI to check my own messages before sending them. This started as a personal tool and became something I wanted to share. If it helps you communicate with more confidence, it's doing its job.
